On Wednesday, May 20th, the Kenowa Hills community came together to celebrate an exciting milestone for student-athletes and the future of outdoor athletics at Kenowa Hills Public Schools with the official opening of the district’s new high school baseball and softball complex.
Students, families, staff, community members, and project partners gathered at Kenowa Hills High School for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of a project years in the making. The celebration began with members of the Board of Education cutting the ribbon at the entrance of the new complex, followed by remarks from district leadership and a ceremonial first pitch thrown by Superintendent Gerald Hopkins ahead of the varsity games.
Made possible through the community-supported bond initiative, the new complex reflects the district’s continued investment in creating modern, safe, and welcoming spaces for students and families. The facility includes four upgraded playing fields, featuring synthetic turf varsity baseball and softball fields alongside natural grass JV baseball and softball fields. Enhanced lighting, upgraded athlete amenities, and improved spectator areas create a space designed to support both athletic competition and community connection.

“Today marks an exciting milestone for our students, families, and entire community as we celebrate the opening of our new high school baseball and softball complex,” said Superintendent Gerald Hopkins. “This project would not have been possible without the tremendous support of our community, and we are deeply grateful for the investment our residents continue to make in our students and schools.” Hopkins also highlighted how bringing baseball and softball together into one shared complex creates a stronger sense of community and school spirit while expanding opportunities for year-round use. With artificial turf and lighted fields, the facility can host additional student activities, youth programs, athletic competitions, and community events throughout the year.
Student athletes signed logoed baseballs and softballs in honor of this project.
Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. and GMB Architecture + Engineering were proud to partner with the district on the project, helping bring Kenowa Hills’ vision for a first-class athletic complex to life.
